THE HUNGER GAMES
by Suzanne Collins
374 pages
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins is about Katniss who volunteers in a deadly game to save her sister, Prim. Katniss volunteers to be a tribute in the Hunger Games when Prim's name gets picked for her to be in the Hunger Games. This killing game, the Hunger Games, is when twenty four children from twelve districts fight to the death to remind the districts of what they caused when they fought the Capitol. Two children are picked from each district, a boy and a girl. After that, the children are taken to the Capitol where they are prepared for the games, and then they are finally released into the arena where they literally kill each other. In the end there is only one child alive out of twenty-four people. Katniss survives most of the game by herself, fighting off tributes and even the Careers, who are trained to fight in the Hunger Games. Then Katniss meets Rue, who is a small little girl from district eleven. They live and survive together until Rue sadly gets shot and killed by an arrow. Then there is the ANNOUNCEMENT. The new rule is that two people can survive only if they are from the same district. Katniss runs to find Peeta, the boy from her district. She finds him badly hurt, so, through a series of medicine, Katniss heals him. They "fall in love" for the crowd in the Capitol. In the end, Katniss and Peeta win the hunger Games!
SCIENCE LAB
Today in Science Lab, we learned about pollution. Each group had two different color bears, one color was a pollutant, and the other was a bear. We put the bears in a bucket and pulled them out in groups of two. If they were two bears we added another bear and if a pollutant was matched up with a bear, the bear died. If a pollutant was matched up with another pollutant, we added another pollutant. We went through five generations of bears and added pollutants as we went. Overall, I learned that pollution is killing innocent little animals like bears. :(

Dorm Life at UCLA
Today I learned some facts about UCLA dorm life. First of all, I found out that the dorms are very, very small. Plus, if I went to UCLA I would have to share a room with other students. The dorm consists of 2-3 beds and one desk. You are probably wondering where the bathroom is. Well, it's all the way down the hall. I can't imagine walking so far just to go to the bathroom! At UCLA, there are girl dorms and boy dorms, and sometimes sports teams have their dorms in a certain area. WOW, I learned a lot about the daily life of a student at UCLA!!!

Science Lab
Tday in Science Lab we learned about plastics in the world. Without plastics, we could barely make it through the day. I use plastics from when I wake up in the morning, until I go to bed at night. We all use plastics for almost everything we have. Plastic items include toothpaste, toothbrushes, band aids, shoes, and sooo much more!!!! Plastics are a part of my life more than I thought!!!!!

Science Lab
In Science Lab, each group saved or killed a bird!!! Each group got a feather and a choice of soaps/cleaners to use. I had to be careful becuase if we scrubbed to hard, the bird would die! In the end, we compared our techniques and observed what worked and what didn't! We had a choice of baby shampoo, pet shampoo, epsom salts, baby powder, hydrogen peroxide, and much more. Xcience LAb was very helpful this week!!

COMPUTER LAB
Today in Computer Lab we went over math skills that will be helpful for CST's. First, I reviewed 2D and 3D shapes and saved the world from robots!!! Some of the skills I reviewed were net shapes and vertices and faces. Finally I reviewed angles, and triangles, and I kept robots from destroying the world in the future!! Overall, Computer Lab was full of skills I needed to review for the upcoming CST's.

Computer Lab
Today in Computer Lab, I reviewed many math skills that I needed practice on. One of the skills was mean, median, mode, and range. Another was about graphs such as bar graphs and pie graphs. The last skill I covered was probability. I practiced and took a quiz on each skill. Reviewing helped me reinforce lessons I have learned in the past also known as "the beating of a dead horse." I can apply this practice by performing better on tests and use it as a resource for the near future. Overall, Computer Lab let me review skills I needed to double check on!

Computer Lab!!!!
Today in Computer Lab, I played a game that was about world hunger. The games told me to do certain tasks to get food to hungry people. There was six steps, or missions to helping a certain area recover from hunger. One thing I had to was finding people that were in need, then I measured the right serving size of food for one day. Next, I drove a truck to get the food to the feeding facility. I also dropped bags of supplies from a helicopter into the village. Once the food was in the village I helped bring in supplies and food and watched the village get back on it's feet. Computer Lab helped me realize that hunger is a real issue and nearly one billion people in the world who are hungry. Computer Lab helped me realize that there are real problems in the world besides mine.

Computer Lab
Today in Computer Lab we reviewed skills in math and also learned something about the future of computers. Mr. Jost showed us a video about a new, tiny computer from England that is the size of a credit card! All the computer needs is a certain series of cords and a cell phone charger. These bitesize computers may be the future of "portable" computers. Plus, I had a chance to polish my math skills with activities for decimals, fractions, negative numbers, and percentages. At the end of each activity, I took a test to make sure I had mastered that certain skill. In summary, Computer Lab benefited ,e by letting me review my math skills and learn something new about computers and technology

Computer Lab
Today in Computer Lab, we learned about how to teach ourselves. There were videos we could look at and questions that could be answered like why are veins blue? And do fortune cookies mean anything? There was also some learning websites with subjects such as math, reading, and grammar. I also learned some interesting facts like there are many different kinds of chocolate. There were self-teaching websites such as Khan Academy and websites where you could take classes. Computer Lab taought me a lot on how I can teach myself when I have the right tools!!!!
